What is checked
The address your request arrived from and whether it looks like a proxy. Headers that transparent proxies add, which carry your original address. Whether the address belongs to the Tor network. And whether your timezone and browser language match the country of the address — a mismatch alone makes you stand out.
Why a proxy can still leak
Traffic goes through the proxy, but browser subsystems may not. WebRTC can discover your local address directly, bypassing it. DNS queries can go to your ISP even when everything else is proxied. Transparent proxies attach a header with your original address, and the site reads it in the clear.
Frequently asked questions
The proxy is connected, so why does this check show my address?
A proxy applies only to the application configured to use it. System DNS and WebRTC are not HTTP and do not travel through an application's proxy, so the address can leave outside the tunnel. That is exactly what this page checks: whether what the browser reports matches the exit address.
What is a WebRTC leak?
WebRTC is the browser mechanism behind calls and video. It opens direct connections and can expose your address around the proxy. It can be disabled in browser settings or with an extension.
Why am I flagged as a proxy when my address is clean?
Data-centre ranges are publicly known and labelled in databases. The site is not judging your behaviour, only which network the address belongs to. Residential addresses carry no such label; data-centre ones almost always do.
